COURSE OVERVIEW: NURSEED 101 offers an exciting 30-hour IV therapy certification course that meets the requirements of the Florida State Board of Nursing for LPN’s to take prior to administering intravenous therapy and RN’s & APRN’s, who want to sharpen their IV therapy skills. Upon purchasing the course, each student will receive a unique link with details to access the online portion of the course. The online portion of the course has multiple modules with evidence-base practice resources, videos, case studies, quizzes and more. *All online course work is self-paced and must be completed prior to attending the in-person skills session. During the in-person skills session, students will be tested on a variety of clinical IV therapy competencies covered in the online portion of the course. Such competencies include inserting peripheral IV catheters, changing PICC and central line dressings and hanging and infusing IV fluids (e.g., maintenance fluids, antibiotics, blood products, TPN). Upon successful completion, students will receive a 30-hour Florida Board of Nursing CEU certificate.

COURSE CURRICULUM: This course provides an understanding of various aspects of intravenous (IV) therapy including: how to care for patients receiving Intravenous therapy, information about the venous system, fluid and electrolyte balance, peripheral veins, common I.V. terms, venipuncture, access to deliver Intravenous therapy, including different catheters and their function/use, specific Intravenous therapies, complications associated with intravenous route, different types of Intravenous equipment, correct administration of Intravenous solutions, medications, parenteral nutrition, blood transfusion, legal aspects of IV therapy, infection control standards and the scope of practice.
